Debate Team From Pahang

  • Description

I want to bring my students to debate competitions. Help my students be the voice they hope to be.

“One child, one teacher, one book, and one pen, can change the world.” — Malala Yousafzai.

My Project:

I began bringing my students to debate competitions in 2014. Since then, I was able to see progress in their use of English and comfort level when mixing with other debaters from all over Malaysia. Most students their age would be talking about pop culture and celebrities but my debate students talk about Malala, other Nobel Prize winners and world events.

Once, a few of my debaters attended a TEDxYouth event on their own accord using their own pocket money and invited me to join them- it shocked me! As a teacher, I am extremely proud to see my students show increased interest in reading, happenings around the world, and I want them to continue to learn and be exposed through debate. I hope to continue facilitating such exposure to more students this year through debate competitions. However, we are from Kuantan and most competitions take place in Kuala Lumpur or Selangor- so it gets too costly.

This project aims to gather funds for my students join debate competitions throughout 2016. Competitions which we aim to join are as below:

  1. Taylor’s University Interschool Debating Championship
  2. UIA’s Interschool Debating Championship
  3. KYS Open
  4. National Academic Decathlon
  5. HELP University Interschool
  6. Malaysian National School Debating Championship
