I plan to bring in Sensory Integration play tools to improve sensory development of children with autism. These children with autism experience difficulties in processing sensory information such as textures, sounds, smells, tastes, brightness and movement. These difficulties can make everyday situations overwhelming; as such, interfere with daily functions and often times lead to an autistic individual’s social isolation from peers and family members. The tools can help my students.

So, every little progress marks a great step for each child with autism.
When my students say “Wah! Cantiknya”, are able to sit down, or complete a task independently- we celebrate these valuable milestones with them.
Children with autism experience difficulties in processing sensory information which makes everyday situations overwhelming but they have so much potential. For them to learn better, we need better equipments.
My name is Gina and I have been a Montessori educator for 16 years, where I regularly train teachers and seek sponsorship for students with special needs from low income families. I teach at Tadika Pendidikan Khas Kurnia Kasih, a Montessori School for Special Needs Children, where I plan to bring in Sensory Integration play tools to improve our students’ sensory development. Sensory integration uses play activities that are aimed at changing how the brain reacts to touch, sound, sight and movement. With these play tools,
- Trained nurses from the hospital will be conducting Sensory Integration Therapy in the school once a week
- Teachers will carry out sensory practice with the students throughout the week.
We will measure the development of an autism child through the level (1-10) of his/her abilities in processing sensory information in touch, sound, sight and movement, before and after going through Sensory Integration activities.
